Internship programme (Online & In-person)
The National Human Rights Commission has explicitly been mandated to increase human rights literacy and awareness in accordance with the section 12 (h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993. To spread awareness to University students on the need to protect and promote Human Rights The Commission has been conducting regularly national human rights commission internship programs since 1998.
The Commission offers two structured internship programs for college and university students who want to gain knowledge of human rights.
Summer/Winter In-Person Internship (4 Weeks)
Duration: Summer (June-July) | Winter (December-January)
Details:
- An offline program of four weeks providing students with an excellent opportunity from all over India to gain experiences in the area of Human Rights.
- About 80 interns are selected for internship programs.
- Stipend: Rs12,000 and allowance for travel (3rd AC train fare from the place of the educational institute up to Delhi).
Eligibility:
- students who are in the their 1st year and are now pursuing the 2nd and 3rd years of LL.B. (3 years) courses;
- The students have successfully completed 3 years or Semester Six of the five-year integrated Law course, and who are in the 5th and 4th years;
- Students in the LL.M. Course;
- Students studying PG Diploma of Human Rights, MA in Human Rights, PG students of Political Science Sociology and Sociology, Work (MSW) Criminology Public Administration Rural Development history, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, Mass Communication, International Relations and any of the fields in the field of Social Sciences would be considered in preference to students who are pursuing their final year in the field;
- Only students of regular classes of recognized UGC universities are eligible.
- Students must be able to achieve the minimum of 65% marks in class XII and the following semesters of their degree program.
- Age: Not more than 28 years old
- Regularly enrolled at recognized UGC universities.
Selection Process:
- Submit a 300-500 words Statement of Purpose describing the “Reason for Joining as Intern in NHRC” by filling out this online application.
- Selection is based on the following criteria: The class XII (30 points) the Graduation (40 marks) A statement of Purpose (30 marks).
- Priority given to candidates who have research-related potential with respect to Human Rights.
- Students who attended the summer and winter Internship Programs run by NHRC prior to the application deadline will not be qualified to apply.
Online Short Term Internship Programme (OSTI) (Two weeks)
Time: The announcement was made on the NHRC website.
Details:
- Two weeks of virtual internship providing valuable learning opportunities and hands-on experience with respect for human rights.
- Around 80 interns are chosen.
- Stipend: Rs2,000.
Eligibility:
- Students studying in the 3rd year and beyond of any integrated 5 year PG Course
- Students enrolled in the 3rd or the final year of graduation course
- Students from any semester or year in any postgraduate degree programme (also applicable to students in the three year LL.B program);
- Students in any semester or year of any postgraduate diploma course;
- Research scholars are students who study in any field.
- Invariably, attained a minimum of 60 percent marks in class XII and the subsequent semesters taken in degrees or diplomas, including those currently pursued.
Selection Process:
- Submit a 250-word statement of purpose on “Reason for Joining as Intern in NHRC” by filling out an online form.
- Selection is based on the following criteria. Selection based on XII (30 points) the Graduation (40 marks) and Statement of Purpose (30 marks).
- Priority given to candidates who have research-related potential with respect to Human Rights.
- Students who have participated in the usual one month summer or winter programs run by NHRC earlier are not qualified to apply.
Selection Process and Application Details:
The application procedure along with deadlines, selection, and criteria, updated in the NHRC website regularly. This information has been available on site after the announcement of every internship program. The commission encourages interested students who share a love to protect Human Rights to apply for these programs.
