At the last 101st Annual Convocation of the University of Delhi, over 1.6 lakh students were getting their digital degrees. This was held on February 22, 2025, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the chief guest on the occasion. 

Further, over 490 PhD students were awarded their degrees, and fortunately the female students surpassed the male students. The university had decided to give digital degrees due to the coronavirus pandemic that covers most parts of the country.

The university also launched an online portal for the issuance of DU digital degree certificates. This portal (digicerti.du.ac.in) was activated on August 11, 2020. It helps to speed up the process for those who graduated up till 2019 but did not get their degrees.

 

Steps to download DU digital degree?

DU students are eligible to get their digital degrees, who have successfully completed their academic courses. Simply follow these steps to download degrees digitally:

Step 1: First the student have to visit the official portal or website for the digicertificate, which is here: digicerti.du.ac.in

Step 2: Log in on the portable (through user credentials). If you do not have any account on the portal, then make your account by clicking on Signup. Then you can successfully Login.

Step 3: Now click on ”DOWNLOAD DIGITAL DEGREE” (you can easily see this on the main page).

Step 4: Here you have to enter student details, which include Type (SOL/NON-SOL), Enrollment Number, and Student Roll Number.

Step 5: Now Click on “verify details.”

Step 6: You can see there are payment options that appear, and now students have to pay INR 750 to get their digital degree from the University of Delhi.

Students now can get their digital degree after the verification of the details.

 

Why is it launched?

The online portal for issuing digital degrees finally launched on August 11, 2020. This initiative was established because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from this, some legal proceedings also boosted the allowance of eligible students to receive digital certificates.

  • The main purpose of establishing this portal was to assist students. Who did not receive their physical degrees due to the “2019 corona pandemic.” The delays occur repeatedly; that is why the government takes this initiative. 
  • Through this portal, students can register themselves and pay a fee of Rs. 750 for issuance of the DU digital degree. It generally takes ten working days to be issued. 
  • These digital degrees have some important features that traditional or physical degrees do not have. For example, digital signatures and security features. Even this can be accessed through the DigiLocker platform (Government of India application).

Following the launch, the university issued over 1.78 lakh digital degrees during its 97th convocation in early 2021. That was massive in numbers. This initiative makes the issuance of degrees easy and economic-friendly.

 

Access your Digital Degrees via DigiLocker?

DigiLocker is one of the crucial applications that was developed under the Digital India program. By using this, Indian citizens can make it as a digital wallet. It means every government ID that we keep in our wallet can be kept in the DigiLocker app.

All issuing authorities will issue valid and original documents in the citizen’s DigiLocker account. The documents are in the virtual or digital form, which includes (e.g., Digital Aadhaar, PAN, Driving License, Vehicle RC, Educational Certificate, Caste Certificate, Income Certificate, etc.). 

Students can access their digital documents anytime using this application. Anywhere it can be accessed and shared online, it is also authorized to be accepted by the authorities, like the police (no one can deny it).

By using the following steps, you can easily access your digital certificate from Delhi University through the DigiLocker app. These steps are given below:

  • First you have to go on https://digilocker.gov.in 
  • Now click on Sign up (if you are new or do not have an account on it).
  • Or you can download the application for Android/ IOS. 

How to Login:

  1. Just sign up for DigiLocker by your mobile number.
  2. Authenticate your mobile number by sending an OTP (one-time password).
  3. Now selecting a username & password for your DigiLocker account.
  4. At last your DigiLocker account is successfully created. 

You can now easily provide your Aadhaar number (issued by UIDAI) to avail additional services on it.

 

How to Access Your Digital Documents:

By entering valid credentials, successfully log in to your account. Go to the “Pull Documents” in the Issued Document section, select the partner name “University of Delhi” & document typeDegree/Diploma Certificate,” and at the end just enter the details of the document, whichever is asked. It is necessary in order to fetch the certificate from such authority.

Because of the corona pandemic, fewer people are invited to attend the 97th convocation ceremony of Delhi University. Only medallists and prize winners were allowed to attend the ceremony that time. Approximately more than 1.7 lakh students received their degree.

The minister further faced the students and congratulated them. Also said the University of Delhi can contribute to nation-building by advancing the Center of Excellence on National Education Policy (NEP).

He also praises the initiatives taken by DU to prevent any interruptions in studies. Even at the time of lockdown by offering high-quality online education. He stated, “It was a significant success that more than 30 crore students switched to online learning last year to pursue their education.”
